Church Stretton

After Forest of Dean we were making our way up north to see some old family friends but thought we would have a look at the Shropshire Hills area first. It also happened to coincide with our Rugby League team the Brisbane Broncos making the grand final so we thought we would treat ourselves and book into an Airbnb with a tv to be able to watch the game. We found a lovely little cottage in Church Stretton which was walking distance to the town and had the bonus of having a fireplace right beside the tv.

On the way up we stopped off at one of the local “farm shops” for some lunch. Farm shop is in inverted commas as my idea of a farm shop is a bunch of produce be it fruit, veg or homemade jams in a rickety lean too with an honesty box. Farm shops over here are next level! They are the size of supermarkets and sell all kinds of wonderful stuff from around the area in lovely packaging and the fruit and veg are definitely not seconds. We had a lovely homemade pastie picked up some local cider and beers and continued on.

Unfortunately our team lost in the final but we had a great two days enjoying the creature comforts of a home, enjoyed even more as the weather outside was cold and wet and windy.

We did manage a walk to the local pub one day and do a little hike up one of the Shropshire hills on the other. The hike up the hills gave us beautiful views over the surrounding rolling hills and fields. Everything was just so green and lush. It wasn’t a long stay but we definitely earmarked it as an area we would love to return to. S
