Drive to Texas

We have covered quite a lot of miles in the last two days after Canyon De Chelly, with not a lot to show for it. We are literally in the middle of nowhere and have now passed into Texas.
We did hit Roswell which we thought may be a little entertaining due to its alien history but were a little disappointed that it was one of those mid size towns with not much character. We have been passing a lot of little towns that have pretty much been abandoned. Still on the map but nothing open. Except maybe the Post Office!
We stopped off last night in the little town of Carlsbad and this morning took a little detour to see their caves. We didn’t know what to expect and I can say we were blown away! The caves were huge. It took us about 2 hours to cover 2 miles of caves which included a decent of 750 feet. The biggest room in the tour was 8.2 acres. Hard to comprehend really. It was definitely a highlight of the trip.
Then we were back in the car and on the road and to tell you the honest truth it has been a little boring. Apart from seeing the oil pumps spread around in the distance there has not been much else. I am currently writing this on the drive to keep the boredom at bay. And to stop me from annoying the driver. From tomorrow we will start seeing some more sites. S.
