Usually when we go camping we are mostly searching for a spot far away where we can relax in nature and explore hiking trails with few others around. While it would still be the ideal it is not going to be possible to do this every stop and Rollingstone was our first effort at dipping our toe into a big commercial campsite with loads of campers and swimming pools and playgrounds etc. To be completely honest the place was great! While it was busy the layout of the park meant that no one was on top of each other and everyone we met there was having a great time.
It did help that the campsite was directly on the beach so we could spend hours wandering up and down the coastline which was fantastic and I even managed to up my walking distance to 5km a day!

Our campsite was right next to a lagoon where there were apparently Barramundi (I say apparently because we never actually saw anyone catch one). It was the perfect spot to relax after we had been feeling a bit under the weather and even though there were few spare campsites everyone else seemed to be doing the same. There was a band one night which was great to sit back and listen to, although I have to admit it is the second time live music has been played at a campsite we have been to and a lot of the songs were repeated and I wonder how many times we will hear the same playlist around Australia!?

We thought we would go for a day trip to Little Crystal Creek which was only about 20km inland from where we were staying. The drive took us up very windy roads from the beach through the cane fields and rose up into the hills where the temperature dropped about 5 degrees. The pools were lovely but it wasn’t really hot enough to need a cooling swim and they were also not dog friendly so after a quick walk around we made our way back.
About 2km north along the coast we came across what looked like an abandoned camp. There was a communal kitchen with long tables set out for loads of people still with wine glasses (empty) left in position. The camps had toilets and showers and solar panels for power. We never saw anyone return there but enjoyed letting our imaginations run wild as to what it could have been!
The few days we spent here were very relaxing and even though it was time to move on we both thought that we could have spent longer here eating wonderful food and enjoying beautiful walks along the beaches. T
