Any soreness we had in the legs from our hike the previous day quickly disappeared when we awoke to a glorious sunny day. Still cold but almost no wind.

So we loaded up on breakfast which was another hearty full English with as many extras as you could possibly want. Our thinking was that we would burn off some calories during this hike but I have a definite worry that we might even gain weight!!! But all joking aside the big breakfasts certainly do help and it means we only need to carry nuts and snack bars to keep us going through the day so that makes the packs a bit lighter and also means we can just head straight out in the walks without having to make up sandwiches.
So again our days hike was going to take us up onto the top of a ridge where we would walk along before descending to our destination of Rosthwaite.
The first climb was a little hard on the legs but the stunning views and the sun were great motivation and we were soon at the top gazing down on the valleys to each side.

Although it was to be another 18km hike we were in no rush and we were just meandering along enjoying the glorious sunshine. It can’t happen too often that you get a whole day with weather like this in October in the Lake District and we certainly enjoyed ourselves.

Being able to see so far was great as we could see where we had walked the previous day which was a couple of valleys over and some of the steep faces looked just as impressive from afar. It really was almost a privilege to be able to see the Lake District in all its beauty.
While it was a relatively easy day due to the kind weather it was still a long walk so it was actually quite nice when we began our last descent through the valley to Rosthwaite where our accommodation at the Royal Oak awaited.

Arrival at the inn was as usual pleasant and involved a lovely warm welcome after we had found the place easily in the centre of the tiny village. We had spent a little more than usual on the place (mostly due to the fact that there were literally no other options that wouldn’t have required a re planning of the route) and when we got to our rooms we found we had a spare living room to hang all our clothes in, a huge comfy bed, a shower and a bath!!!
The delights didn’t stop there though as the chef at the Royal Oak had abandoned his Michelin star training to pursue his own dreams here in the Lakes. So our evening involved a delicious 3 course meal which was certainly quite different to all the other meals we had had on the hike. This was followed by a long soak in the bath, what a perfect day. T
