Bargara

We had heard plenty about a little place called Bargara on the coast near Bundaberg about 250km north of the Sunshine Coast so we decided to head up that way and having had such success booking through Hipcamp we thought we would give it another go and found “Karen’s place” just outside of town and right on the coast.

Never quite sure what to expect from these places we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and once again had the whole place to ourselves (in fact I don’t think Karen was even home!). We were situated right on the coast with access to a bike/walking path so in fact ended up staying 5 nights!

While not a classic Australian sandy beach the coastline had a definite beauty to it and the small town of Burnet Heads just north of us was a lovely sleepy hideaway. Just to the south was the slightly larger town of Bargara that also was lovely but was certainly filling up a little with apartment buildings and developments but still was really nice to ride our bikes around.

In between the towns was the Mon Repos Turtle Centre which during turtle hatching season was a hive of activity but as we were there outside of this time there wasn’t a whole lot to see. It is fascinating that these turtles return to the same beach to lay their eggs even after having travelled so far in between. We have been fortunate enough to witness the young hatchlings making their way from the nest down to the sea once before and it would have been great to see it again. Next time maybe we will time our visit a bit better.

Great day for golf with only one other group on the course!

On the whole it was a bit of a sleepy stay but it really was a beautiful part of the world and I can see why people are raving about it but for us after a few days of relaxing and finishing off the last few bits of life admin we felt ready to head off west towards our next adventure! T
