The decision to not stay another night at Mitchell was unfortunately easy and we packed up and set off not really knowing where we were headed but knew that we had 4 nights left and a fair few km before we had to be back on the Sunshine Coast. The plan was to just drive and see how far we got and what we could find.
In the end we were lucky. We found a free site about 12km off the main road which was bordering on a watering hole. It was originally used when cattle was driven across the outback and provided a place to stop for the night and rest and water the cattle. It now lies empty but for a few campers. Unfortunately when we arrived there were two campers already in the prime spots but we drove a little way out the back and discovered a whole area completely empty and a second waterhole. We picked a spot and set up and gave each other a high five for finding such a nice place.
Sarah had the yabby pot in the waterhole almost as soon as we stopped and once again we were eating yabbies for dinner. We were also able to enjoy our outdoor shower and toilet combination which is absolutely fantastic but does require a certain amount of seclusion from others. This coupled with the camper trailer meant that even though all we had was a spare bit of flat land we had everything we wanted. Not bad for no cost!!

We got in contact with Macca and Claudia who we had been with at a few campsites and suggested they join us and enjoyed a wonderful evening under the stars chatting around the campfire.
It was a great spot to rest up in before we headed back to the Sunshine Coast in fact we enjoyed it so much we stayed 3 nights and then drove back and just did a quick one night stop in a park by a road.
As we drove west and passed Dalby it was noticeable how much more rain the area gets and therefore how lusciously green everything was. The temperature was starting to come down too which was quite a relief. We worked out that we had spent a month with the temperature above 35 everyday and not cooling down too much in the evening either. While bearable it was definitely draining and upon our arrival in Caloundra we both felt full of energy and ready to go!!!T
