After enjoying our stay on the last golf course which offered camping we were excited to go and visit Coonabarabran Golf Club where they also offered free camping. This time we weren’t quite on the 18th green but certainly close enough. In fact there were another 6 campers at the site but it was quite large so we all had a fair bit of space.
We had arrived on a Friday and were encouraged to come into the clubhouse and enjoy some Chinese food but first we thought we would get 9 holes of golf in. It’s so nice to have daylight savings and sunlight until 8pm so we made the most of it and enjoyed our golf before heading into the clubhouse which was surprisingly full and indeed we could see why as the Chinese takeaway was pretty delicious.
The next morning we thought we would play another 9 holes. The club were pretty relaxed and we were allowed to take Griff with us about in the course which was fun. For the record Sarah won the golf but I was excited to be seeing some definite progress with my physical abilities.

We weren’t sure what we were going to do in the afternoon but decided to set off on a short walk to some sandstone caves just out of town. Never knowing what these attractions are going to look like we were amazed as to what we got to see. The wind and the rain had eroded one side of the cliffs and the result was quite spectacular. There were patterns left in the cliff face all along a wall of about 800m long.

The town of Coonabarabran was not large but had some pretty interesting buildings and while it didn’t take us long to walk around it was certainly worth a look.

Coonabarabran sits right next to the Warrumbungle National Park which is a designated dark sky park so the star gazing is meant to be amazing. Unfortunately our dog means we can’t actually stay in the park and our hectic couple of days meant we were so exhausted we couldn’t stay up long enough to enjoy the stars. Still we felt we had a great time and Coonabarabran is definitely a lovely and certainly very welcoming town to visit. T
