Coolah

Another day, another country town starting with C with a golf course and great Chinese Restaurant 😂😂 . This time it was Coolah and with a population of under 800 it was one of the smallest towns we had stopped at, though of course it still had two pubs. Only an hour drive from Coonabarabran meant we could sleep in, pack up and still be there before lunch.

Our options for camping were the golf course or the paid caravan park so no prizes as to which one we selected. Apart from golf we were also mountain biking but when we went and investigated the mountain bike tracks we found they were unfortunately overgrown. The downside of all this rain they have had out here. So the draw card of Coolah was its golf course.

We wandered into the clubhouse for a beer and were quickly talking to some of the locals who were very proud of their course and gave us a bit of a run down of what to expect. Back at the camper the wind had picked up and the nighttime temp was going to get down to around 10 degrees so Griff got to spend the night inside. We are still sitting at 500 m above sea level so I think that may have something to do with it though we were not expecting it to be so cold in the summer. The locals keep telling us that it is unseasonably cold and it usually hits 40 during the day so maybe we should just be thankful!

Griff was super excited when we started getting out the golf clubs on day 2 and fortunately we had the course to ourselves so didn’t think anyone would mind him coming along. The course was lovely and green with beautiful trees lining the fairways. Most of the holes were really interesting with many dog legs to keep us on our toes. We had sand greens again which gave me the advantage which I grabbed with both hands to win the O’Keeffe competition. We had to carry our clubs as there were no buggies for hire and combined with a pretty hot day and long walks between holes we were all 3 exhausted after the round.
