Our next destination was Forbes. For no real reason other than it was south which is the direction we were heading, under two hours away and going off our campsite app there was a nice caravan park and of course a golf course.
The first campsite which was at the Showgrounds was vetoed due to the look of the place so we shelled out the big bucks and stayed at the fancy place in town along the Lachlan River. Lovely and green and not too busy it was a nice place to stay for a few days.
We went for a walk around town to stretch the legs in the afternoon and were really impressed. The Main Street had some beautiful buildings which had been restored and the place was immaculate. They clearly had a community who took pride in their little town and it was evident in the park where all their NSW tidiest town plaques for the last ten years or so were displayed.
During the walk we passed a sculpture in the Main Street and found out that there was a sculpture trail along the Lachlan river which we walked the next day. The majority of the walk was along Lake Forbes which branches off the Lachlan river and meanders straight through the town. The sculptures were nice but the best part was just walking beside the lake as there was not a cloud in the sky and the temperature was lovely. Since I wrote in my last blog that we hadn’t had high temps it seems to have bitten us in the behind as we have gone through a few days of mid 30s. Typical 😂😂. Though still not a patch on Qld and the near 100% humidity around this time of year.
That afternoon we went and played golf and I am not just saying this because I got thrashed by Tim but the course was the most expensive we have played and definitely not the most interesting. Though the fairways were mowed low and the greens were actual greens and were in great condition, the course itself was a little blah. Needless to say we still enjoyed ourselves and the town of Forbes was a lovely little stopover for a few days. S
