I am currently sat at the end of day 12 watching the sun go down next to our own water hole. Needless to say it has warmed up a bit probably hitting mid 20s during the day and while we both have jumpers on it’s not nearly as cold as it has been the last few days. Fingers are crossed that we get a warm spell that lasts long enough to see us through to the end. It’s really strange not having weather forecasts and also experiencing such a range in temperatures. All part of the adventure.
Anyway back to the day. As we were sleeping in a gorge the sun was still way off hitting us this morning when we got up but we rugged up and sat and had a leisurely cup of tea and breakfast and then because we had only a short hike to do we had a second cup. It was lovely relaxing and although we don’t really feel that sore we definitely enjoyed the relax.
Further on up our gorge was a less frequented walk to a gorge so we thought we would head up for a look. It was quite different rock hopping without big packs on our backs and we felt light and springy (hard to believe I know!)
Our 1km scramble was so worth the effort as the red walls closed in around us and then at the end we were treated to an amazing view through the last gap to the other side of the range. There was a deep pool of water at the end junction just to top off the view. I am so glad that we have taken the time to enjoy all these extra little moments.

Back at camp we loaded up the backpacks and set off up the valley for our 4km hike. We both felt like we were walking through quicksand with lead weights on our backs!!! No idea why but it was hard going for that first km or so. Then we were back into the swing of things and in no time at all had climbed up through one valley and down through the next to arrive at our destination of Fringe Lily creek.

We were first there and had a good look around before finding a nice spot next to a water hole and away from all the other camp spots.

As it was still early we decided to make use of the sun and the water hole and wash as much stuff as we could. We were expecting to be quite smelly but the smell of our hiking socks is something that I struggle to put into words and that’s not the only pungent smell that’s permeating through our tent every night.
Anyway it’s amazing how clean you can feel even if it’s only relative.

The rest of the afternoon was quite fantastic relaxing in the sun. Certainly feel very refreshed and still can’t believe how amazing this hike is. T
