Not quite fully recovered but pretty close we kept moving east to get us closer to our destination of Mackay for the start of July for a family wedding.
We had already been to Winton once on our trip but to say the visit was chalk and cheese is no understatement. Last time it was 40 degrees and not a blade of grass to be seen anywhere. This time it was green and lush as far as the eye could see and we had a heater on a night. The drive from Boulia to Winton was spectacular with fields and fields of green grass and bird life everywhere! We often wondered what was going through the early settlers minds when they came out here and decided to make it their home but if they were travelling through after rain then I can totally see why!

Last time we stayed at Oondooroo station but it was about half an hour out of town so we decided to stay in the caravan park in the middle of town so we could go for a pub meal. We got one of the last spots in the caravan park as the place was packed. We kind of thought this might have been the case as on the trip from Boulia to Winton we passed a steady stream of caravans coming the other way. It was crazy how busy the town was. It had a real buzz about the place.

We both had a bit of a spring in our step heading off to the pub for a meal as we had not had a good steak for ages. The Tattersall pub did not disappoint and going off the numbers eating there on a Wednesday night others felt the same.
Even though our stay was short this time we did manage to hit the Banjo Patterson museum which we were a little disappointed in. It was supposed to be one of the best country museums but we just found it to be a little bit of everything museum with no real substance. The building is amazing but the exhibits not as good. Maybe it was just our moods on the day but we didn’t think it was a patch on the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach.

I have a feeling we will be passing through Winton again on our travels as it is a bit of a hub of outback roads and honestly we would not be disappointed. S
