Fairly uneventful trip down to Riga in Latvia from Helsinki. A quick ferry which was packed full of people going for a day trip to Tallinn. Most of them seemed to be carrying trollies in order to carry booze back to Finland. It really is that expensive there. Anyway we didn’t have long to waitContinue reading “Riga in Snowy Latvia”

Arrival in Vilnius
Today was transit day. We caught a bus from Riva to Vilnius in Lithuanina. The drive seemed to be just through miles and miles of flat land covered in snow with a bit of forest to break up the monotony. It reminded me of the movie Fargo. We arrived around 3.30pm and have scored ourselvesContinue reading “Arrival in Vilnius “
Castles in Lithuania
Glorious to wake up in such a nice apartment today and having seen Old Town when we arrived yesterday we decided to head out to Trakai which was a short bus ride out of town. We are getting used to nice easy bus rides and this was no different surfing the net all the wayContinue reading “Castles in Lithuania “
Walking around Warsaw
We arrived late into Warsaw after a 7 hour bus trip. I am blaming this for our little mistake with currency exchange where we got out $1000 worth of Polish zyoty instead of $300. We were using the Hungarian rate instead of Polish. So stupid! After reading the Lonely Planet we were not really expectingContinue reading “Walking around Warsaw”
Oh Wow, Krakow!
The snow once again was following us as we woke up to set off towards Krakow the ground was already white. It was 11/11 today and Independence Day in Poland and the streets were all lined with the Polish flag in preparation for the celebrations. Probably not the best day to visit Krakow as aContinue reading “Oh Wow, Krakow!”
Auschwitz
We knew our trip to Auschwitz today was going to be pretty shocking. However words cannot describe how shocked we both were. It was an immensely moving occasion and I was going to write a blog full of the gory statistics and details we encountered on our visit but I don’t really feel it’s appropriate.WeContinue reading “Auschwitz”
Beautiful Budapest
We had three nights in Budapest so we were going to take it a bit easy rather than our usual of trying to cram everything into one day. We had booked into a walking tour so headed to the to rendezvous point only to find about 3 different companies all claiming to be the freeContinue reading “Beautiful Budapest “
Bathing in Budapest
When we thought of travelling around Europe in the Autumn we expected it to be cold but hoped for some blue sky days and so far we have had more snow than blue skies but today delivered it was gorgeous! Perfect for walking around beautiful Budapest! We set off towards Heroes Square and on theContinue reading “Bathing in Budapest”
Timisoara
We were pretty excited this morning when we awoke as we were picking up a car and going for a little road trip into Transylvania, Romania. After the usual annoying rental car pick up routine we were off! Not that fast though as we are in a little 1L Kia Picanto. Lucky it’s a manual.Continue reading “Timisoara”
Driving to Dracula Country
Off we went in our Kia Picanto towards central Romania and our final destination of Brasov. Tunes playing and Sat Nav showing us the way it was pretty good. There has obviously been a motorway built since our guidebook was updated so we were able to travel along at 130kph along dual carriageway. Well othersContinue reading “Driving to Dracula Country”
