What a day!!! In total 15 kms and about 1000 oohs and aahs.Continue reading “San Francisco”

Route 1, An Epic Drive
The plan for the day: to drive the infamous route 1 down the Californian coast. We are lucky though as we are getting to experience the slightly less travelled route coming into San Fran from the north. It was, of course, a foggy start to the day but it all adds to the atmosphere ofContinue reading “Route 1, An Epic Drive”
The Lost Coast and Avenue of the Giants (very Inida Jonesish!)
Today was an epic road tip adventure. We started out in Crescent City. The city was a little blah but the bay was very nice. We drove down the coast on the 101 towards Eureka. We started pretty early so there was quite a bit of fog which made it eerily beautiful. Especially the townContinue reading “The Lost Coast and Avenue of the Giants (very Inida Jonesish!)”
Shady Cove
Every once in a while you stumble upon somewhere absolutely magical, or somewhere that just fits for the time and space you are in. It’s even better when it’s not a place you have found in a travel guide or researched online. A couple of days ago we were driving from Crater Lake, Sarah wasContinue reading “Shady Cove”
Crater Lake
Our drive today was another special one. We took a little detour off the coast to head east to visit Crater Lake. The deepest lake in America. It is also the bluest, clearest lake we have ever seen. Formed when a volcano devoured itself, this lake is filled only by rain water and snow melt,Continue reading “Crater Lake”
Might buy some bear spray!!
Just saw this news item!! No-one mentioned it when we were there and asking if there was any need to carry bear spray!! I might buy one for our next excursion into bear country. T
Further down the Oregon Coastline
A day spent cruising down the coastline from Yachats to Coos Bay. Apart from a couple of trips inland to see some national parks we are going to follow this coastal road all the way down to San Francisco. The road hugs the coast and the views are just fantastic and the little towns offerContinue reading “Further down the Oregon Coastline”
Yachats
A relaxing day today spent in our wondrous campsite and strolling along the coast and through the rainforest. We had a beautiful lunch in a cosy restaurant in Yachats, then went for a walk along the beach and rugged coastline. Considering we are here in the height of summer the weather is still pretty briskContinue reading “Yachats “
Newport, Oregon
It was incredible arriving on the first night, after we decided to push on and go for a long drive from Boise. As we arrived during our intermittent phone service we were discovering that most of the accomodation was either fully booked or very expensive. Luckily just as the rain started with the fog comingContinue reading “Newport, Oregon “
Journey to the West Coast
The drive from Yellowstone to the west coast of Oregon, certainly reminded us as to how big this country is, there were literally miles and miles of not that much but we are putting a blog in just so that we can remember it. To be fair the scenery was pretty beautiful, but the driveContinue reading “Journey to the West Coast”
