Okay so Yellowstone was a place that we both had as a must do in our American bucket list. And to tell you the truth it didn’t start out too well. However it is mostly due to the fact that there are people everywhere!! Apparently even though it is peak season this time of yearContinue reading “Hubble Bubble”

Drive to Yellowstone
The trip started with an awesome drive up to 8300 ft through the Big Horn National Park. Tim had a great time driving the Hybrid like a rally car! It really doesn’t feel that high considering Alpe Du Huez is only 6,100 ft! Then we went on to Cody, which was where Buffalo Bill wasContinue reading “Drive to Yellowstone”
Get on Your Bikes and Ride!
There have been quite a few bikes in a couple of our photos and we have also been struggling to find accomodation since we arrived in the Badlands. This is because there is a huge motorbike rally going on in Sturgis, and when I mean huge I mean American huge!! The event officially goes onContinue reading “Get on Your Bikes and Ride!”
Battle of the Rock Carvings
This area also boasts a couple of famous landmarks in the rock carvings at Mt Rushmore and the ongoing work of the carving of Crazy Horse. The first thing to say is that they are actually both quite impressive as they are actually massive and I think the first glimpse of them is the best,Continue reading “Battle of the Rock Carvings”
Hike Up Devils Tower, Black Hills
Enough leisurely strolling around for us, time to step it up! Today we went for a great hike up to Devils Tower in the Black Hills. After a great drive through the park we thought it would be a good idea to get off the roads and try and get away from the crowds andContinue reading “Hike Up Devils Tower, Black Hills”
Custer and Wind Cave
We got up nice and early, packed ourselves lunch and then went exploring. It is really bizarre over here in that you could expericence a lot of the national parks without stepping outside your car, as scenic routs literally cut straight throught the park. We are undecided whether or not this takes away from theContinue reading “Custer and Wind Cave”
Badlands II, Even Badder!
Today we spent trying to avoid some wildlife (rattlesnakes) and finding others, big horn sheep (too quick for us to get the camera out) prairie dogs and bison. We were lucky to see all three but we are still waiting to see the herds of bison which we are sure can’t be that far awayContinue reading “Badlands II, Even Badder!”
Arrival at Badlands, South Dakota
Camping gear purchased and car rented we were both pretty excited to arrive at Badlands. Having driven through Kodoka, which was where we would have stayed if we weren’t camping, we were feeling even better about our decision to buy the tent! From the moment we set foot in the Park we were uttering wowsContinue reading “Arrival at Badlands, South Dakota”
Start of the road trip!
Woo hoo! We picked up our car in Chicago (a hybrid Ford C-Max which was brand new) and then started our drive out of Illinois to Wisconsin where we stayed in Madison. Then from there we pretty much drove East to West through the whole of Minnesota to stop today in South Dakota at Mitchell.Continue reading “Start of the road trip!”
